Question What would you do?

Okay so after finding out today that my van has been recalled and is doing some of the same things as Poohbearkrazy did before her's burned:eek: we are not going to be driving it anywhere unless it is to the dealership to be fixed. In the meantime I am still going to have to find a way to drive around with my kids. I can barrow my sisters extra car witch is a 1980's Doge grandma car. There is only lap belts in the back seat and lap shoulder in the front no TT.

Kids stats and available seats
DS 6y/o 55lbs. Nati (still fits in 5pt) Monteray, turbo, old style parkway
DD 28m 25lbs old style RA 55 and MR

I know from last time we had car problems the MR dose not fit RF in the back seat, I am not sure if the RA will.

So the question is who would you put where and in what seat? DS in the back in the Nati with no TT or in the front in hbb with lap shoulder? DD in back FF no TT (if RA dose not fit RF I don't think it will) or RF in the front seat?

This would be in town driving only tops 45mph

I would use the Nautilus and the Radian if it were me. Both can be installed using the lap-belt only, providing the Nauti is used with the harness straps.

The length of driving time and top speed should never hold any weight in your decision when considering where to seat children. Most crashes happen close to home and just because you're doing 45 doesn't mean some idiot isn't going to be doing 70 when he barrels into you...sorry to get off the subject....

Anyways, that's what I would do. If you don't have a passenger in the front, perhaps you can move that seat all the way forward, allowing for an easier install RFing for either the RN or MA.

The front seat is a bench and reclines as at weird angle even when as upright as it can go and as far froward as it will go I have to drive with a pillow behind my back so I can sit up enough. There would not be any other passengers besides me and the kids.

I'd go RF RA and Nauti in the backseat. Especially since it's an 80's model I wouldn't want a child up front. There's even less protection there than in today's vehicles.

Remember, a RF seat can be more upright for your DD - that should help with the fit. And if the front seat is a split bench and you won't have other passengers, the passenger front seat could be moved forward to give her seat more room.

Another thought - any chance of swapping vehicles with DH if seats fit better in his car? Let him drive the borrowed one, and you use his?
