Question Does my want in a car seat even exist? HELP!

Right now I have my ds RF in a true fit in the 3rd row of my Mazda5. I love it in all ways except that darn harness adjuster but I deal with it bets I can. Well, I hatch load ds (which I also love btw and never would have thought of except for this forum!) and the TF is so far down there that in the wet winter, I'm going to ruin all my pants/skirts/tights getting him in and out! I'm too small to reach without touching the bumper and too big to hop into the back holding ds. So I need a seat on a small base. He was in a Signo before this and it was way up there but that darn short footbed on that seat! He isn't comfortable anymore in it and hasn't been since last May. And being in the 3rd row of a Mazda 5, I really really want to have lock-offs on the seat itself, otherwise the belt pulls the seat into the side way too much. I really don't want to use a locking clip if at all possible. I suck at putting them in  And I don't want to spend almost $400 on a seat!

So all that to say:

Tall RF shell
on a small base
lock offs for RF on seat
needs EPS foam in the headwings
installs well with a belt
And is about $200 or less...

Am I dreaming?

What about keeping a few old towels or a rug in the hatch to lay over the bumper while loading? Cheaper than a new seat if you like everything else about the TF. And once one is soiled, it can go in the washer.

I'm with Teri - my first thought was a towel! Much cheaper than a new seat, too, and easy to keep a couple in the cargo area.

If you're really set on a new seat, though, maybe a Britax Boulevard?

What year is your vehicle? Can you use latch instead of the belt? How much does your son weigh? A radian has a tall shell, low base, and eps in headwings... just no lockoffs, and not sure about belt install compatabilities in your vehicle. Guess I'm not much help. Sorry.

I've had the same issue with my car, except it's with getting anything in or out, not just a kiddo. :) I like the towel idea. I hadn't even thought of that. I usually don't even think about it until my shins are already wet or dirty.

There's no LATCH in the 3rd row of a Mazda5 (it does have four top-tether anchors, though - one for each back seat!) The Radian's okay in the 3rd row, but still pretty low-profile & would require leaning on the bumper. Plus it steals a lot of room from the seat in front of it.

A towel is a great idea! I'll give it a try for sure but in case it doesn't work, any other suggestions?

My Mazda 5 is a 2010 there is no latch in the 3rd row. My son is only 21 lbs right now I actually WANT a base...the TF doesn't have a base...I need the seat to sit up high...

It looks like the older boulevards are all on clearance for the right price online! I wen to BRU today and I LOVED the new Evenflow momentum...except, no lockoffs..

Does the CCO have built in lock-offs? It KINDA sits on a base. And it'll last awhile.. maybe not the last RF seat you'll need if you're going to EERF...

Old-style MA and BV would work (new, too, but older ones are on clearance at my local stores).

The CCO has lock-offs, but I'm not sure it would sit high enough. It's kind of bulky on the bottom, but it tends to settle right into the bottom of a vehicle seat because of the way it's shaped.

The only issue that I would have with the CCO is the size of it. I tried 2 18 month olds in it and both were at the point where they would already need to be switched forward facing. So the shell height isn't great. I do LOVE the seat though. :)
