Help with my Ford Truck and car seat

We're having our first and we just picked up a baby seat. It's a Graco and we're happy with it, but it won't fit in the short back bench seat of my Ford F-150 pickup, even though it's fully fitted with tethers. This rear-facing car seat does of course fit in the front seat just fine. I have an airbag switch that I can use to turn it off when the child is with me.

So, question: is this OK to do, have the infant seat in the front seat or should this be absolutely avoided? Does anyone know where I can get information or a list regarding which infant car seats are best for pick-up trucks?

The front seat is an absolute last resort-

Kids 12 and under are always recommended to be in the back seat. If you must place a rear-facing seat in front, you will need to deactivate the airbag.

I've fitted a few Carseats in full size extended cab rear seats. While some convertibles are too big, most infant seats seem to fit even though it is tight.

There are a number of entries in the "Compatibility" link under the top banner for the F-150, you might check it for some idea.
