Right now civilian employees who are serving in a war zone DO NOT have tax exempt status (so they still pay taxes on what they earn while serving there), but active duty and contractors both DO receive this benefit. This is a serious inequality as the civilians work just as hard as everyone else and have the same risks from being over there as anyone else too. My dad is over in Iraq now for his 3rd term since early 2003. He is a civilian employee (retired Army) and does not volunteer to go, it is part of his job just as it's part of a person serving active duty. He and the many people he works w/ deserve the same benefits as others are receiving.
