How worried should I be about the Windstar recall?

I heard about the recall of Ford Windstar vans, mine is included. How worried should I be? Ford isn't going to start notifying owners until Sept. 27th. I'm really worried about my rear axle breaking.

How worried would you be?

I have one, and am not worried. I have never taken my van to those states, and rarely even take it to the beach.

I'm worried because I live in IL, and the previous owner's lived in IL, so it's been exposed to a lot of road salt.

DH read that they will reinforce the axle and if they feel it can't be sufficiently reinforced, they will replace the axle. I don't know that I trust them to judge if they axle has been reinforced sufficiently, I had to go to three dealers before they could correctly retrofit the top tether anchors in our Escort.

Nuts.

We are supposed to go to DH's family reunion about three hours away this weekend. On country roads with lots of potholes. Although, I don't really want to go (I'd rather have a root canal than see my MIL). Would you say it's too dangerous to drive to the family reunion?
