Issue:

Orbit Baby Inc and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an adhesive concern for the National Safety Mark (NSM) label. This label was initially adhered to the material of the infant car seat by the company. The adhesive used by the manufacturer was not sufficient to hold the NSM permanently in place as required by the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Cushions Safety Regulations (RSSR).

Safety Risk:

There is no identified safety risk. However, some police services are required under their governing provincial or territorial laws to look for the presence of the NSM as part of their on-road enforcement and education efforts.

Background and Company Action:

During an examination of an Orbit Baby infant car seat, it was noted by a Transport Canada investigator that the national safety mark was missing from the product. The company was notified immediately of the technical non-compliance and they identified the problem as the strength of the adhesive when the label was placed on the material. The company has changed the location of the NSM to be adhered to the plastic shell of the infant seat. In addition, the company reworked all product that was at the retail level.

Consumer Recourse:
All owners of affected infant seats should contact ZOOM Distribution Corp. at their toll free number (1-888-966-6911) to receive, free of charge, a new NSM label and full instructions as to the location it should be affixed.

Until the repair kit is received, Orbit Baby Inc and Transport Canada have indicated that the public may continue to use the product.
