Question Britax Frontier Installation in 2006 Outback Subaru

I just bought a 2006 Outback Subaru Limited. I read about how it is difficult to install seat so I need some help. My daughter is 6, petite and about 36 pounds.

I tried the seat in the middle over bump with both seat belt (as no latch system in middle) and with tether. No luck. The seat belt on the "male" end is too thick and does not snugly fit into the carseat to make the Frontier flesh.

The I tried in the back driver side. I used the latches with tether. Okay, but not "bomber" as I prefer. The Frontier weighs about 20 pounds. I read on this site that the Subaru latch limit is 60 pounds including the seat. Which means even if I use this mediocre method, she will outgrow it at 40 pounds.

I tried the seat belt in the back driver position as well and no luck.

I am pretty frustrated. This is a good seat, comfortable for my child, and really should work somehow.

I have tried flipping the bottom of the Frontier platform to make for a snug fit and still no go.

Can someone help?

Hi Carol,

I believe the Frontier recline block has to be forward in harnessed mode. I was able to install one outboard in my Outback. It didn't work in my center position either. Here are a few tips that worked.

-whether using LATCH or the seatbelt, tighten from inside the belt path. Reach through the slits in the front of the cover and pull the belts from there.

-I had to twist the buckle stalk a few times (buckle stalk = female end). You can twist it up to three full twists of 360 degrees each.

-line up the male end with the belt path opening. even twisted, the male end was still slightly in the belt path, but not enough that my son could feel it from the front. Here's a picture-

Good luck. :)
