I had a seatchek with an Evenflo base installed with the center lapbelt and the LATCH straps hooked to some mystery bars about 3' apart back in the trunk of the car. (They were pulled through the seat bite.) It was in a 95 cavalier w/o LATCH. Funny thing is, me the normally very small 7 month pg tech got it installed tighter with just the belt that he had it, and he had tried pretty hard. I did make him dig out the LATCH strap. I wasn't about to reach back into the unknown abyss of a 12 yr old car. LOL.

If you followed the instructions, have less than 1" of movement at the beltpath, and are using the locking clip less than 1" from the male end of the lap/shoulder belt it's probably right! (It's really not that hard...) Oh, and the noodle in the "bite" or crease of the seat is fine too.

Just a note on noodle use: Last I knew (somebody will call me out if I'm off), you can use the angle adjustment on the IO base OR you can use noodles, but not both.
