My cousins 7w preemie is 12 days old and may be coming home tomorrow. I believe they have a graco snugride. I offered my assura for them to use since it is rated from birth. She is a little over 4lbs. The hospital is sending her home in a rental car bed because she is under 5lbs. She passed her car seat test with flying colors. Wouldn't a rear facing seat be safer in this case? If so can I get some links to show them that?

I don't know that there are any videos or studies that would prove this, but I do agree with you, a properly fitting infant seat would be better in this scenerio than a car bed.

Is it possible for them to pick up a keyfit, or one of the better safety first onboards to take baby home? They are rated from 4 pounds, and fit littles really well. ANd maybe show the hospital how well baby fits in the 4 pound seat.

They just got home :) I'm bringing my assura anyways. I was just hopeing for data since the dad is a EMT required tech and He'd like to see proof. There are no keyfits or onboards around here. The Dr. thinks that she'll be 5lbs before her next appt. She sits at a recline very well!

I can't find any info online, but I'm sure I have info at home. Anyway, if he were to talk to a Special Needs trained tech, they would tell him that all the evidence is w/ RF restraints being safer than car beds. It might help to tell him that car beds just have to keep kids in the car; they don't have to meet any other requirements.

My instructor stated car seats and safer than car beds, as long as the child can handle being in a car seat.
