FFing baby at work!

Agh! I found out this morning that a mom I work w/ has her 7 mos old preemie (8wks early) ffing in a built in seat in her van! I was so shocked that I barely knew what to say and I know I could've handled it better. I wrote an apology note to stick in her box at work and stressed how important it was and how I was certified etc and I'd love to help. It's just scary how much people don't know. I turned AJ early at 11mos, but that's a lot closer than 5 mos corrected!

 Oh my, I tried my then 23mos. DS in a built in carseat last summer and the straps were still quite high! I couldn't imagine a 7mos. old preemie! I will see if I can find a picture of him in the built in seat for you.

Yikes! That's terrible. That makes me feel even worse now. Poor baby. I try to keep my work and carseats seperate but since I work w/ her mom and take care of her almost every day, I had to say something. I do hope she listens, she's come so far since birth I'd hate to see her hurt. :(

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel worse! I just thought if you wanted to you could use my pictures as an example somehow, without trying to make it like you are *picking* (for lack of a better word) on her.

Just thought that I would comment on my pictures here, we DO NOT use this seat, in fact it isn't even our vehicle, we were just trying it out. I was really surprised at how high the straps were and it is for 20-40lb children!

When I first started keeping my great-niece she was four months old, and a big baby. One day at 5 mos. old she arrived FF in a harnessed booster. Her parents *just didn't know* about keeping babies RF; they bought the seat because the weight limit started at 20 or 22 lbs. (I would, of course, had said something had I known they were shopping for a new seat!) I called my brother (the grandfather) immediately and he bought them two convertible seats. :)

I agree that the straps are mega-high! My son was 2.5(the size of an almost 2 yr. old) and this is what he looked like in my sisters van..

UPDATE! Mom has baby back in her infant carrier. She's too big for it which is a whole other issue, but at least she listened. I apologized for being like I was and we're all better.

I'm glad you are better with her :) And at least the baby is out of that seat  Now here's to hoping that she will get a good RF seat and keep the babe RF unitl the max weight limit of the seat!
