Car seat use w/o shoulder straps for medical issue

If you do decide to have your husband purchase a seat in Europe one of the versions is the Romer Vario, it was the Britax Laptop when sold in the US. You can do a Google image search to see what it looks like.
No, there are no Varios available anymore and they perform really bad in side-crashes.

The Kiddy (Infinity Pro) has really really good crash results! Even better then some rearfacing seats. In Germany, the Kiddy for a nearly two year old is the best decision you can do (despite importing seats from Sweden). So I really think it is a perfect solution for a special needs situation in US.

Me too. The Vario has a high back booster that it can be used with for the black cover models. Or the booster can be used alone. Or the Vario can be used alone.

Gotcha, I was envisioning just the "Laptop" portion.

Honestly, everyone who's been here for longer than 12 seconds knows I am fairly passionate about rear facing especially for kids under 2, but in the end as a technician, my goal is to see the child leave safer than when he came in (virtually speaking).

Since the child is currently riding in a rear facing seat with the shoulder strap not on the shoulder and the parent was considering a BPB , just about anything would be an improvement at this point, even an illegally used forward-facing only seat.

Proper use trumps best practice every time.

And honestly, I'm pretty impressed with those shield seats. They have better HE numbers than 5 point harnesses, which will reduce the risk of spinal injury for those early forward facers.

If I *had* to forward face a kid under three, I'd probably try to hunt one down myself :twocents:

Do you have videos showing this? I am super curious about it. :)

Baby One in Nuremberg has on available. I am going to try and go out there next week to see if it is still there. It was there 1.5 months ago.

Thanks
