Is an almost expired seat kind of unsafe?

So it looks like our infant seat will expire when our baby is about 3 months old. We were wondering if we should just use it to it's expiration and then switch to a Convertible seat (not our 1st choice for convenience though.) Then DH starts on the whole "it's not going be suddenly a whole lot less safe the day or so after it expires, right?" OK I am not comfortable taking a chance in that direction, but it got me thinking... since it is a gradual deterioration, is it really all that safe to use the seat in the last 3 months before it's expiration? Is it a bit less safe that it was when it was new? Should we just give it away while is still has a bit more life in it, and buy a new seat?

It's safe, go ahead and use it if you want to :)

If it only has a three point harness, or a rear adjust harness, I would consider replacing it regardless, though :twocents:

Hmm, it's 5 pt, but I'm not sure what you mean by rear adjust? The harness height is adjusted in the rear but you tighten in the front (it's an older Graco SnugRide.)

You have a front adjust then if you tighten the straps in the front, down by baby's feet.

The rear adjust is a little harder. NOT unsafe though if used properly.

You're good

The rear-adjusts are the ones where you have to pull from the back to tighten the harness. They are not unsafe, but I've never seen an average parent use them correctly, either. Much more of a PITA to adjust, even for a dedicated child safety advocate.
