There are no clinics occurring in Edmonton anymore. There is myself and one other lady who are doing checks and one of our numbers is given out if you call a health unit and ask who to contact.
There are only a couple of police officers in the EPS who are trained techs, so unless you attended the public check event at the police station (last one was summer 2008,) then the one who checked your seat in the first place most likely wasn't a tech either. While I respect the job they do enforcing the law, many members of EPS have a very poor attitude towards child safety. Some of the things I have personally heard, and others that have been passed on to me, are down right dangerous and potentially deadly.
Most of the health units still have injury prevention nurses, but unless you fall in to what is considered a high risk group, they won't look at your seat.
My email address is mommy0406 AT gmail if you'd like to contact me that way.
Unfortunately most of the province - if not the entire province, has no seat check program anymore. There are still techs, but be sure to ask when they were certified/re-certified, and the last update session they attended. The last update session in the city here was either March or April of 2009 and almost all of those who were actively participating in the seat check program would've been in attendance at one of those update sessions. A tech who attended one of those is more likely to be up to date - most likely not with what has changed since then, but with the major things that had changed up to that point at least. (The exact dates the update was done is escaping me right now.)
Hopefully this helps somewhat.
