Oppinions on baby video monitors.

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone can recommend a baby video monitor. A good bargain is always nice but most important is that the thing works, lol. My bedrooms are all upstairs. Once Rylan is in bed I have no idea if the sounds that I am hearing are normal sleep sounds, seizures or like a few weeks ago, puking. Another thing I have thought of is a home security monitor system or "spy cam" setup. Depending on cost maybe I could get really fancy and have a feed into the computer and then I could record seizures to take to the neurologist. My cordless phones are 2.4GHz. Colour video monitor is not important *unless* it gives a better picture for some reason. I'm in Canada but if need be could buy from elsewhere.

Thanks,

My sister has the Safety 1st one. It was fairly reasonable and she says it works great. It is black and white, but when I was there I thought the picture was just fine, and it monitors sound too. HTH

You might like the Sumner video monitor. We have it and purchased it b/c the Mobi camera monitor was not in stock at the time. I've heard the Mobi works a little better but it is more pricey. We were able to purchase our for about $180 at BRU. There's occasional static but we really like being able to see DS at night!

Thank you. I think I would like the portable one, that way I could actually be down in the basement organizing it while he is napping. It's weird, I'm doing more baby-proofing now than ever before. I have 2 steel, wall mounted gates at the top and bottom of my stairs, electrical covers on everything, door knob locks (need to get deadbolts installed out of reach instead), cupboard locks....

In addition to the video monitor I'm trying to find a non-tippable, high weight harnessed chair to sit at the kitchen table, a large diameter toilet seat insert, high weight stroller, cloth diapers to replace Overnights that leak all the time anyways. I know that there are lots of products out there for special needs kids, but they cost an arm and a leg and most of them have more features than Rylan needs. He really just needs a bigger highchair (but one he can get into himself), a bigger potty seat, a bigger car seat (after the Radian it will be the Regent or maybe the new Recaro).

Sorry to ramble, thanks for listening.

For highchairs, have you looked at the wooden swedish looking ones. Like this one? http://www.highchairs.com/Kettler-Junior-High-Chair.pro It holds up to 100 pounds and look pretty easy to get into. You can remove the front bar from most and just use the buckles. My SIL has one and uses it with her 60 pound, 10 year old who only has the ability to sit up by himself. He is severely disabled and is able to use this one well. I know there are other brands like this out there.

Kool-stride makes strollers with very high weight limits. I believe the one my SIL has goes to 100 pounds and it looks like a slighly larger jogger. It is pricey, though.

No ideas on the potty seat, but for cloth diapers, the XXL fuzzibunz might work for you. Or the snap-ez nap-ez trainers would work. They both have snaps on both sides to make taking off easy.

I'll check those out, I think I've seen the high-chair but it's always great to hear from someone who has seen it in use. Rylan doesn't have any mobility issues which for which I am so thankful...rather he is very active but without any regard to safety, kwim? 90% of the time he comes to a person before he has a seizure...except when it is a drop seizure and those always seem to happen when he is sitting on a chair. :(

I've been looking at the Mobi video monitor but have no real advise but that even with the exchange rate/shipping etc etc they can be cheaper on e-bay then in stores here.
I want one with two camera's as I have two very light sleepers and very squeaky floors and doors that wake them when I try and check up on them.
Also look at the Tripp Trapp for a chair for your son. I am working on saving my pennies for one.
Cheapest place I found it so far has been TJ Kids at 279.00 plus shipping.
Also the Svan and the Kettle Chair that a PP mentioned..( I think at crocodilebaby.com) or there is a knock off brand on e-bay based out of Ontario. I have been eyeing it but am not sure if it would be as solid as the Tripp Trapp.

I found out this morning that Wascana Rehab will build him something...I would need to provide them with a chair that they can remove the base and then they would put a vinyl-covered, custom built seat with straps and side and back supports. Of course I like the look and style of the store-bought seats more. I wish Wascana would look at trying to find a pattern for a whole chair, they could really make something quite beautiful as they use good 2-side plywood with a clear varnish for everything that they make.

Keep the ideas coming, I pass all these suggestions on to the OT in case she can use them for another child.

Here is my list of high chairs so far:

Potty ladder with seat (this would be great as long as the diameter of the hole is bigger than the usual potty hole).

I'm not exactly sure how well it would work for a boy, but the Baby Bjorn potty seat is great for my girls. It's extremely stable on the toilet. My monkey of a 22 mo old can climb up from the floor by herself (yes I've tried to get her to use a stepstool LOL;-) and it doesn't shift at all. My 3.5 yr old can use the toilet without it no problem, but usually puts it on b/c she says it's more comfy. I've had various other potty chairs and seats through the years (my oldest is 9) and I really wish I would have sprung for the Bjorn long ago.

Thanks for the link. Would you be able to measure the width and length of the hole in the middle? Rylan is 4.5 years old so his bumb is a bit bigger.

Just wondering if you found a bigger potty seat? I had gotten one at superstore and walmart has them as well. It is cheap maybe $3.98 but it has a big hole! I started of with this one for my 2yr old but the hole was too big and he kept peeing everywhere, he now uses this one at Grandma's and has lots of room. In fact his 4yr old cousin uses this potty seat at Grandma's and doesn't have any problems with it.

I'll have another look at Walmart and Superstore for those. Lately I've sat him on the toilet facing sideways and me sitting on the tub. Doesn't work too bad except that he flushes the toilet repeatedly while sitting there, lol.

They don't come in a box or anything, they are in a bag sometimes hanging up and sometimes just laying on a high shelf. At superstore they are down low. I think they are by ELFE!?

I saw it at Walmart today and we used to have one of those. He is a terrible wiggler on the toilet and he shifts that one all over the place. Right now he either used the white padded one with the blue handles ($12 @ WM) or sits sideways on the seat. Grandma was helping him the other day and he never did pee but he washed his sock in the toilet. :p
