Roundabout RF install for older child help

My son is 21 months old and small height (32")/weight(19") and I have him rearfacing in his roundabout. His legs are very crowded and he keeps complaining that his legs hurt in his seat. I think the waist part of the harness straps might be what are hurting him not his actual legs from the knee down being folded up?

Is the angle of the seat o.k. or do I need to sit it up v. recline now? Or what can I do to make it more comfortable? I'm at a loss but know he shouldn't ride FF yet.

Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

Britax seats don't have much in the way of rear facing leg room. You're going to need to buy a new seat anyway, because that will one will most likely be outgrown far too early to forward face. What about upgrading now to a seat with lots of leg room?

The seat needs to be in recline mode. Then you can install it anywhere from 30-45 degrees. Older kids often prefer to be more upright, but having the seat more reclined will give more leg room.

Is the harness too tight perhaps? I notice that if I accidentally tighten too much on the roundabout that it digs into my ds's legs. It's worse when he has shorts on. You might encourage him to try sitting with his legs crossed. That seems to be more comfortable for my ds.

What seats do you feel do have more room for rearfacing? I would love the Volvo rearfacing seat (which I realize is made by Britax), but just not willing to pony up the 500+ USD to import from Sweden right now.

My older DD went from Snugride to Roundabout to Regent (missed Frontier release by a few months). I really like Britax seats. We do have a Graco Nautilus at my parents house for my older daughter too.

The Graco myride, true fit, evenflo triumph advance, safety first complete air, sunshine kids radian all offer much more leg room than the britax convertibles.
