harness vs high back booster?

Can anyone point me in the direction of information regarding the safety of a 5 pt harness versus high back boosters? My child is 6 years old, weighs 48 lbs and 46" tall. We recently moved to Spain. I am having a hard time finding seats that allow for a 5 pt harness for an older child. It makes me nervous watching hbb crash tests how much child moves - a harness and tethered car seat seems to not move as much. Thanks!!

A child of your child's age and size, assuming he has developmentally typical emotional maturity, is very safe in a good high back booster :)

Look for a booster with a high back, that positions the belt really low on the hips and thighs, keeps the shoulder belt firm across the middle of the chest, and has really deep headwings preferably lined with EPS/EPP foam :)

Maedze - thank you so much. Yes, my child is developmentally normal. I was thinking of purchasing one of these seats... know anything about them? The Cybex seems to have good ratings and has this fixing belt to restrain the top of booster that looks interesting. As I understand there aren't any large weight/height harness seats approved for Europe use. I want to use what is safest for my child and wouldn't give me any legal/liability problems if we had an accident. Thank you!!!

Personally, I'd choose any of those boosters except the Cybex :twocents:
There was a thread a while back that included crash tests and the Cybex was scary

I get scared by all booster crash tests - it looks like the kids move around too much? Anyone have an example of a good crash test for a high back booster?

firemomof3 - was this the video you saw?

I don't remember the thread or have the links that were posted, but I was REALLY pleased with the ones of the Monterey.

Yes, all boosters in a crash are scary. Honestly, the only tests that aren't at least partially scary to me are rearfacing seats.... and even that's still a bit scary just because it's a crash and there is motion.

But the Monterey, when used as a highback, didn't scare me as much... the body and head stayed where they were supposed to the whole time the seat and child were moved by the forces.

So this makes me think the key is good belt guides (upper and lower, deep headrests, and well positioned body support.
