Yikes -- he is really REALLY!!!! unsafe harnessed in that seat. She needs to take the harness out and use it as a booster before he gets in the car again. It is not a very good booster, but it is safer as a not-good booster than used at 150% of the harness capacity.

Then I recommend she consider a Britax Regent or a Sunshine Kids Radian80 -- most kids won't get over 65# in a Radian but this one might.

ETA: Both those seats are fairly expensive. If she cannot afford them, which I can completely understand, the child is far safer in a good belt-positioning booster seat than over the harness limit. I'd rather see a 4yo harnessed, of course, but the bottom line is that he just can't be in a 40# harness. If she has high headrests or vehicle backs in her car, she could consider the Safety 1st Apex -- it will harness him for five more pounds, and then become a very wide BPB.

YIKES! I agree. If you have his stats right, he needs to be out of that harness yesterday. She needs to try him in some new seats if she really wants to keep him harnessed. She can get a Nautilus for 5 more lbs if he fits, which he may not if he's that big, or I would seriously consider a Regent at his size.

at this point you can get a regent for close to the price of a nautilas, If that was my child i would go for the Regent

I agree, for a 60 lbs 4 year old there's really not much of a choice. If she wants him harnessed a Regent is nearly the only seat that will work. The frontier and Radian 80 would probably hold him, but their more narrow then the Regent and he probably wouldn't be very comfortable.

I'm also going to suggest the Britax Regent - it's on clearance because it's been discontinued, so it can be bought for around $150ish now.

Or the Britax Frontier - it has nice tall slots and an 80 pound limit, then becomes a really good booster with a slide guard clip available for purchase soon.
