Son gets out of Triumph

Ok you're thinking you're going to pass along some advice- possibly telling me to stick velcro on the clips, or maybe to pull over and yell at him. Sigh.

He is 7 months old. He gets out w.out unbuckling it. I have taken him to a car seat specialist and she has verified that the straps are in the right place and tight. He is buckled in properly. I have zero idea how he gets out.

I do know that my husband is able to pop his joints of their sockets and can twist and contort his body in many ways. I assume my crazy little houdini is also able to do this. That is the only idea I have come up with.

I called Evenflo and they didn't have any ideas for me either. They originally said it was a discipline issues and a parenting problem. Then they moved onto "no idea."

Can anyone on here help?

Thanks
Michele

They're right that it does become a discipline issue when the seat is otherwise being used properly. You really can't modify the seat or straps without risking changing how the seat performs in a crash.

Can you go on a couple of trips with you or your husband riding in the back seat to keep an eye on him? Some parents have success simply pulling over every single time the child starts to get loose to fix the straps. You might also have success keeping him distracted with soft toys or favorite CDs. I used to recite books to my DD who hated riding in the car.

Wow, it must be so frustrating since he's so young

I too would try to limit rides with kiddo to those times when an adult can sit in the back with him.... Otherwise, besides distracting him with soft toys + music, this is an occasion that using a carseat mirror is a good thing & I would just keep pulling over to get him back in correctly each time *SIGH* (Try to plan more time into your trips for this or the rush could be even more frustrating!)

7 months! Holy cow. Yeah, not much in the way of discipline can help at 7 months.

Maybe try a new seat. Are the straps kinda far apart in the Triumph?

What seats have nice close straps? Scenera? Maybe try a Blvd, AO (isn't the AO infinitely adjustable) or other seat where the straps are able to be just a HAIR below their shoulders. (I know if the straps are way below, its gotta be easier to wiggle out.)

Where are the straps in relation to his shoulders. Like how far below his shoulders are they? Is it significant? Maybe try him in a seat with slots closer to his shoulder height??

There was a post not to long ago about straps falling off in the triumph because the slots were so far below the child's shoulders, so that is the only thing I can think of??

That's what I was thinking, too--the straps on the Triumph are set pretty far apart, making it easy for the straps to fall off, or get pushed off, of some childrens' shoulders.

My son who is 4.5 recently figured out he could do that and thought that it was funny and also how strong he was for doing it.:(

Luckly both times we were stopped at the bank and drive thru when he did this.
The harness is TIGHT on him and he still is able to get BOTH arms out.
He pulled the harness clip down and had both arms out.
He has got his movies taken away twice now.. I hope he does not do it again.
I told him that it is not safe etc.
