There is a family owned thrift store that I went to today. They had two travel systems for sale, and one of the car seats was expired. The other was an Evenflow Discovery that looked terrible, but was manufactured in 2008.
I went up to the counter to let the guy know that the one seat was expired and he probably shouldn't sell the other one since he didn't know the history of the seat.
No joke, he kicked his legs up on the counter (he was sitting in a chair) and said "Car seats do not expire." I told him I was a CPST with SafeKids USA and that yes, he was incorrect, they do expire.
I told him that it becomes a liability issue if he were to sell one of those seats and something terrible were to happen. He got cocky and told me he'd take my words into consideration, all while his legs are kicked up on the counter.
He made me soo mad, but, I'm not sure there is an actual law about selling used or expired car seats in Maine.
