Narrow center car seat for 2017 Kia Sedona that allows for back row access

We recently purchased an 8-seater Kia Sedona that has that skinny center seat in the middle row. We are hoping to find a narrow car seat (and in the future a narrow booster) that would still allow at least one of the two outboard seats to "rise up" for access to the third row. Our son is 5 years old in kindergarten and weighs 41lb at present. Asking because our older two kids are teens who like to sit on either side of their baby brother and we basically use our third row only occasionally when we've got extra passengers. We used this configuration in our 2011 Honda Odyssey before it was stolen and we'd like to do it again.

are you looking for a forward facing seat? I know you said your son is five but judging by his weight he is still within RF weight limits depending on seat..

Can you give the measurements of the center seat?

Thank you for asking! That seat bottom on the center seat is 14" the seatback is 17" at their widest including the slight gap between it and the outboard seats. Our 5-year-old is Forward Facing. I know there is likely no car seat that narrow, but I'm hoping to not obstruct both outboard seats. Hoping for at least one of them to be able to rise up and give access to the rear row, and still allow for the outboard seat to be used (access to the regular seat belt) for one of our teens.

Also, since Toys R Us shutdown, where do people go to test out car seats in their car? Used to be that TRU would let you pull your car up front and try their display model car seats in your car to see what would fit, and I'm wondering if there are some other stores that allow people to do this.

What is your budget? I have a few seats in mind.

I'm open to anything that might work, no specific budget limit in mind. Would be nice to keep to $300 neighborhood or less, but I can be flexible on that.

Thank you!

That Cosco one is the one in Grandma's car! I'll borrow it and see if it might work. I found one other car seat that seems pretty narrow (and super pricy) at https://clekinc.com/products/convertible-seats/foonf/ . When you scroll down you can see they've placed 3 of these seats in a row in a minivan with a small center seat, but I'm sure its impossible to enter the rear seat from moving one of the outboard seats forward. The base on this seat seems to fit that narrow seat perfectly, but the seat gets "wider" higher up from the base so I think it would still block the side outboard seats from moving forward to allow rear row access. Wish I could find a place to play around with these car seats rather than order them and have to send them back when they don't fit.

The radian looks super narrow too! (And its price is way better!) I'll be checking that one out for sure. Thank you so much!

The center seat does not have a tether anchor and should not have forward-facing seats used there since you have lots of other seating locations that do have tether anchors. If you want to keep him harnessed, you’ll need to move him to one of the other spots. Dionos do not install securely with the vehicle seat belt in the captain’s chairs. If you move him to a captain’s chair, and want to keep him harnessed, I would suggest the Chicco MyFit, Graco Nautilus SnugLock, Graco Tranzitions SnugLock, or the Britax Grow With You.

If you want to look at high back booster options, the Chicco KidFit, Graco TurboBooster LX, TurboBooster Grow, Britax Skyline 2-Stage, and Britax Highpoint 2-Stage would all be good options.

Our son is 5 years old, about 43 inches tall, about 41lb. I have a high-back booster we use when he needs to ride in a friend's car, but he can't buckle himself up when using it. The 5-point restraint of a car seat he can buckle himself so I hope to use one until he is truly old enough and large enough to buckle himself in with a booster seat and the regular seat belt. But at that point we'll still need a booster that will fit in the middle seat. I'm okay with the car seat not being one that transitions to a booster.

I checked out the foonf but thought you wanted a harness booster in one. how tall is your five year old?
