Ok looks like if I do get a seat in, it will probably be a Britax Marathon then. And I definitely don't need to buy any extra accessories with it do I?

We have Britax Childcare (Australian Branch but in New Zealand, sounds confusing I'm sure) I know that they can bring seats in from Europe to use here, so I am going to contact them and see if they can do the same for the Britax Usa seats.

www.britax.com has links to all their websites in all their countries :)

I'd go Marathon at this point, too, it's just simple britaxy-goodness, all the bugs have been worked out of it (the Decathlon has a poopy harness adjuster, the Boulevard is recalled for some bizarre tether hook issue....), it's safe, easy to use, and if www.albeebaby.com will ship it to you, it's cheap (relatively speaking). You don't need any extra bits or pieces when you buy it, and all you need for rearfacing tethering is a solid metal part in your car, like the leg or back of the seat track of the front passenger seat.
The Radian would also be a great choice if only we knew if it fit in your car... the box is smaller, and it's easier to ship (the Marathon is about one inch too big for cheap simple shipping in the US, it has a lot to do with box size).

:)

Well it's morning here now so hopefully Britax here will email me back with some sort of pricing.

Hey, I talked to my friend at UPS. He said $300 did sound correct, mainly because UPS is more about shipping small items or envelopes.

He said to check into FedEx, or some other shippers....

Hopefully it's some sort of reasonable price to get one here, otherwise I'll have to flag it, it's coming up to Christmas, I have another child due soon and a Wedding to pay for in a month! ARGH!! Wish I could win the lottery! lol

Oh well. Britax here said they can't/won't bring the seat in. I have emailed that Albee Baby link and asked if they would ship to New Zealand and the costs if they can.

Also try www.travelingtikes.com That's where I got my seats. They had great customer service.

I also meant to ask you. Did you say you were from Australia?? I have a Safe 'N Sound carseat from Australia. It was given to me from my friend who's family moved here from Australia. I would use it but I heard that I can't legally because it has not been approved here in the US. I know some kids that should be in carseats that aren't, because their parents can't afford carseats. I am half tempted to give them the Australia carseat to use.....

I'm from New Zealand but we have all kinds of seats here. I have a Safe 'n' Sound seat (Safe 'n' Sound is a Britax Australia owned company www.britax.com.au). I have one for my son, will have one for my next child and it's one of the only seats I highly recommend to parents. I know that legally you can't use it in the US so I suppose it would be up to you, I think I would rather a parent use a non US standard seat then no seat at all IYKWIM?

It wouldn't be so bad for a forward-facing child but they may get confused with how to use it rear-facing (I could help you with that though) Remember that picture of my son I used to have in my signature? That is a Safe 'n' Sound seat.

Yeah, that's what I thought you had said before. This seat looks a little different then your sons seat. I would actually like to know if mine can be used rear-facing. I don't think it can, and I think it is a 40lb limit seat. I think it is set to expire next year or the year after that. I will try to get a photo of it and post it.

But, yeah I totally agree. I would rather a child be in an illegal seat that in no seat at all.

I did purchase a chestclip for it off of ebay. I thought it was missing a chestclip piece, but my friend later told me that they don't use Chestclips in Australia.

Also wanted to add, that this seat to me seems extremely cheap. It has no cushion, the fabric is horrible, and it is very basic in every sense. It reminds me of a $30 US seat like Cosco.

I don't know if all the NZ and AUssie seats are like this, but if they are then you are in for a big surprise with a Marathon. The Marathon is like super super super nice, compared to this Safe n Sound seat I have.

You can send me a picture via email if you want :) Do you know its date of manufacture? They don't put 6 year life expectancies on their seats, just a recommendation to not use past 10 years of age and no, they don't need chest pieces.

Eww doesn't sound very nice, sounds like a very, very basic model, they have about ten different sorts of convertible car seats to cater for different kinds of budgets, just going by what you've said, it sounds very basic.

I have seen the Cosco seat and 'felt' it and it no way compares to the seat I have with is the third model from the top, the upper two have lots more padding but they are $499 and $549.

Really? Can you tell me what standard the seat is? Is it European Standard ECE44 or something similar to that?

Norway

It is European Standard ECE R44 rev 03. The new seats comming out now is rev 04.

The seat I think would be best for you is Britax Two-Way Plus. The seat is reduced from 530 NZD to 360 NZD in a store in Sweden. They ship to Norway so I think they will also ship other places. How much the shipping will be depends on the weight of the seat.

this is exactly the seat I was recommending and wished I could have gotten. I actually found one on ebay right when I started wanting one but even though I could have gotten it for 15$ plus shipping I didnt take the chance. I talked with the mom a lot in email but I still didnt want to chance it.
