SKJP has a new name, new seats - Diono RXT

The website looks very unprofessional, and it's worded in a way that says nothing. I don't think SK is behind this one.

Now, if I get this right...I don't see that the new seat will offer any benefit to us. We have a FF Radian that my son outgrew RF, and I can just get a booster when the time comes. (And we don't need cupholders). Does it still have Superlatch? And the top harness slots are not higher? (And won't there be a gap for some kids who outgrow the seat by height but are not 50 lbs. for the booster)? Then what do parents do? Misuse the seat?

As for a wedge for a better RF angle, that MIGHT allow me to put more RF Radians (for my little ones) in my van that otherwise overreclined? So I'd be for buying a wedge if it's retroactive as I could ERF more kids.

If the Radian as a booster is the narrowest choice on the market...THAT is something we'd perhaps need down the road for 3 in a row situations involving boosters and carseats.

If a kid outgrows the harness by height, how would they use the seat as a booster? It's kind of like the Maestro...if they outgrow the harness, they also outgrow the booster since the head rest can't go up. It doesn't appear that the head rest on the Radian will be able to be extended any further then when it is in harnessed mode, and if that's the case the booster mode is pretty pointless.

Interesting.

In theory, I like the idea of a minimum 50 lb weight on a booster (for *my* kids, it wouldn't be an issue), but, in reality, I know, personally, a handful of 6-7 year olds who are barely 40 lbs.

I may have missed it somewhere in all these pages, but did they increase the height on the harness top slots to be comparable to, say, the FR85 (without the "allowance" of the shoulder straps falling below the shoulders, as with previous RNs)?

This was my thought, too. The same problem the Maestro has. Grrr

Who designs these seats?
Do they run it past a board like this?

I would think a lot of the kinks can get worked out before it hits market.

If some of the potential problems I've been reading about had been run past a forum like this, they could have been fixed.
Or maybe there is more info that will answer the questions and the problems are not really problems, yet.

I had a feeling something new was coming from SKJP. I never suspected this though. Really I hate the 3 in 1 concept. Not to mention, why would a company want to sell one seat when then could sell 3?

And what if you only did need one seat ever for your kid? No new seat ever? That would be awful!

I hope they got a new harness adjuster.

I agree. I never want 3 seats in one. I keep handing them down to my kids. I don't like to mess with the steps of converting seats, either. And I really WOULD be interested in the booster, perhaps, but not if it comes for $300 with a convertible I don't need. If I kept a seat for 8 years, new ones would come out with more safety features way before then. I did tell them about the harness adjuster issues with the Radian and they said they would look into it.

I hope the Monterey isn't discontinued! Those were clearanced on strollers.com also.

if they dare discontinue it, I say we all boycott the company, because seriously, that is THE best booster for the tall/wide big booster kid set... the only other comparable one is the britax frontier, but that's some serious money to only use it as a booster.

They just better not do it.

I agree... unless the kids are super leggy, I don't see the point of having the option.. and even then, they're going to need another booster before they 5-step... it's just unavoidable.

they're trying to make one seat (which they think is so incredibly awesome... not that it's not, but it isn't perfect) do everything... and be everything... and they outright say on the SKJP site that it is the safest seat... hello, not if it doesn't fit your vehicle and not if you can't install and use it properly every time!

50 lbs as a minimum? Pros and Cons to this... however I'm optimistic...

October?? Sweet... I can hold off getting a Radian and go ahead and get this when it comes out.

I can see the headrest in the pic... does it go higher? How high does it goes in booster mode? I'm thinking it's similar to the Frontier85.... because in harness mode it goes up to the top slots and in booster mode, there's a screw in the back, when it is taken off, the headrest goes even higher. Is it similar to that? Hopefully because otherwise it's like the Maestro and short. However, the Radian hasn't failed me yet so I'm optimistic! :D :D :D

Good about the Monterey...

Bad about the Diono Radian.... how high is it supposed to go in booster mode because apparently it says it goes up to 100-120. How is that possible?

pooh on the headrest then... it's useless as a booster for most people then (at least all of us on here)

yay for the monterey... because after combi took away the dakota, I just can't have them taking away the other good wide booster (well, boosters if you count the santa fe as a totally separate entity)

Just skimming, but 50 lb minimum for booster mode? Really? My 6 year ok'd us 38 lbs... She will be five stepping by 50!

I'm having a hard time imagining the kid that could use it as a booster, who didn't still fit in the harness. My 6 year old is on the top slots of her radian and has about an inch of torso growth before it's outgrown (well, unless she uses it after her shoulders are past the top slots, but I'm personally not comfortable with that) and she's only barely 40 lbs. It will be years I'm sure before she's 50 lbs.
I just don't see how many kids could be at least 50 lbs and still be able to fit in the radian as a booster. I don't see what the option would be for if the kids outgrew the harness mode before they were 50 lbs, it would either be misuse the seat or buy a new seat.

I am super pumped about the wedge too. If it will retro-fit the previous XTSL model, that would be awesome! I have my 4-year-old twins turned FF because we can't fit the seats RF in our car and have my hubby sit on the passenger side. I have called the company and asked if there was any way to position the seat RF without using the bottom piece and it is not possible, although they did give some directions as to how to get a lower angle position with it (like 30 degrees instead of 45). They would both still be RF until they were 5 or 6 if we could do it. The wedge offers hope in that regard!

Am I the only one not comfortable with a "wedge" I'd rather see a toddler boot. But I guess it depends on the design of said wedge.

I'm not going to make that call until I see it. I would love it if they fixed the over recline problem that Radians have in many vehicles. I would love it if my toddler could sit more upright in his Radian. This may be the answer.

A wedge! A wedge! Omg they're offering up a wedge.

Please, someone tell me the wedge is an accessory approved for use on current Radians.

A wedge, folks. Praise the lord.

:love::love::love:

I wanna wedge now!!! If I could get my current radian more upright it would increase the chances of me getting a second. I really really need that wedge!

Yes, me too!!!!

Yeah, that then makes three pieces to the seat. But I'll reserve judgement until I see it I suppose.
