In your third photo above, it looks like you have the black plastic piece folded under the seat. I believe if you flip that up and put THAT in the bite, you will get the extra legroom you are looking for.

What black piece? The entire base is dark gray. I have the swinging base flipped forward. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm out here struggling with it right now. It's too damn upright and still not any leg room. It's a tiny bit better but not much.

By flipped forward you mean towards the rear of the car right? & it is upright there isn't much recline on the seat at all.

You can kind of see here how much of an angle the seat is on

Yep, I just meant that piece should be flipped into the bite rather than under the seat. Also, do you have it really wedged in there? That may not be necessary to get a good install. My five year old has tons of leg room because there is a gap but you don't appear to have a gap at all between the MT and your car's seat back.

Definitely look at the grey foot bit and make sure it's facing into the seat. The seat itself shouldn't be touching the back of the back seat, only the folding base.

Look at diagram 2a in the manual, and look at the folding base. Make sure it's sticking out like that.

Now look at this thread, and the 13th post on it (mine)
http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?p=596038

If your seat looks like the pic on the left, the foot is folded into the WRONG position for RF.

My MT went into the bite in my van as well.

Pool noodles fixed it, also I have my son push on the seat back to compress it a bit and then tighten the tethers after that I drop the foot prop.

Where it is now I dont need the noodles.

Are your seats sloped, are they squishy or firm?

How is the installation going? I'm anxious to hear how this works out for you :)

Great! It's in! I posted a couple pics in my other thread. I have a couple more fit/ growing room pics to post when I get a moment to breathe. I hope to do that later today :)

Sloped and squishy. I shoved a tightly rolled beach towel into the bight.

I saw on swap that you are thinking about a TWE instead. What do you think you will like better about it? What isn't working for you with the MT? We have both so I'd be happy to answer any questions if I can.

I'm not crazy about the headwings. Stupid right?

Because he doesn't fit into them yet? My 18 month old barely fits into the seat and the headrest is sort of funky for him but he is only 24 pounds and on the short side. It is big brother's seat though and he LOVES those wings. Do you have the headrest all the way down in the shell?

I like the TWE but the buckle irritates me and of course it has to be braced because there is no foot prop so it can't go behind driver. We have used it FF though a few times for the five year old in he 3rd row which is nice to have the option of doing. We primarily use it in my husband's Porsche boxster as I absolutely won't allow him FF in that car and he and my DH love going places in it. The harness has to be rethreaded though in the TWE.

The headwings fit. I got it for my almost 3 year old. I have to have the straps a good bit above his shoulders or the headrest is right on them. He doesn't like the headrest touching his shoulders. The crotch buckle butoon is also super seay for him to push and I am constantly worried about him unbuckling. He has done it twice. Fortunately both times we were just in the driveway.

Rethreading the harness is not a big deal to me.

Oh yes! The buckle! That is really my only "beef" about the MT. Well, he most likely will NOT be able to get it undone with the TWE. My five year old just figured out how to do it by pushing on it with a "log" from his toy logging truck. We had some issues at four with him unbuckling the MT and had some very serious discussions about it and now he asks permission to unbuckle it before he does. That probably wouldn't have worked for him at three though and definitely not at two.

I also get what you say about the head-rest. Ours will definitely get outgrown before the TWE because of the head-rest pushing down on the tops of the shoulders. He does like resting his head on them though.

The TWE buckle is sort of odd. They are kind of inverse of "normal" so they are a little awkward to manage because you have to flip them in towards the middle to buckle.

Every time I put him in it he says "I push button?" I say "No, who is allowed to push the button?" To which he replies "Only Mommy do it?" For the most part he understands that he is not supposed to. But, he's 3 and I do not fully trust him not to.

Can you post pictures of the TWE buckle and how it works?
