As for a luggage cart, I never use one, and I don't want to mess with having to find one on a short layover.

Just to clarify, I wasn't meaning one of the airport luggage carts. I was meaning a little folding personal luggage cart that you can buy and use over and over. The advantage of this is that you can just stick it in the overhead compartment on the plane and it folds much smaller than a stroller so takes up less trunk space etc. I can't find a picture of one, but they are just a little metal thing with an extendable handle.

It sounds like the Snugrider will work for your needs. I'll try to post a pic of what I do when I'm traveling that light if I get a chance.

Oh, like a little personal hand truck? That's a good idea, too, and one I hadn't really thought of. We might actually have one lying around somewhere. I'll give the improvised travel system a try first. Although, yeah, it would be nice not to have to gate check anything. (We usually end up checking the car seat at the gate anyway, since we book DS as a lap child.)

I'm pretty proud of how light I manage to travel. When DH comes along, he's the one lugging a bunch of crap while DS and I breeze through security and all that. All that I need are the diaper bag, car seat, and kid! But lugging the car seat is a pain, so I put it on wheels, and I bring the Boppy, too, because I think that makes it more comfy on the plane for DS and me. Snap the car seat onto the stroller, toss the Boppy in the basket, and we're good to go! It's *almost* easy.
