My friend turned her 9 month old ff'ing because he screams when rf'ing. She knows it's much safer for him to be rf'ing, and she said she would turn him back around if I can help her find a solution to the problem. I already suggested a mirror so he can see her, but I'm not sure if she bought one or not. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

Mirror, more upright, switch to a different seat (is he in an infant seat?) If he's in a convertible, try a different convertible. Is his harness snug enough that he's not slumping all over the place?

The thing is, babies cry. She needs to accept that, and turn him back around. Are you in a state where there is a law that could mean a ticket for her?

A 9 month old cannot forward-face. Period. I agree w/ Maedze - try more upright first and foremost. I'm guessing he was in a convertible since he's foward-facing? Or did she get a forward-facing only seat? I'm really, really hoping she didn't forward-face the infant seat! Kids go through car seat stages where they cry. You can tell the difference b/n mad crying and hurt crying. Car seat crying is 99.9% mad crying.

Sometimes when my DD gets fussy in the car I turn on a childrens CD for her. It distracts her and calms her down about 95% of the time. A mixture of happy, fun music with calming nursery rhymes or lullabys works best.

Also, this sounds really blunt and almost mean to say to anyone, but with some people being blunt is just what gets through to them. I wouldn't say this to somoene I'm not close to but I've told friends who turned too early... whether the excuse is so that they can see the baby or the baby screams...

By turning them forward facing they are taking a risk so that they can see the baby for the length of the car ride, or baby will not scream for the length of a car ride, but they are risking NOT seeing that baby for the rest of their (parents) lives. They are risking NOT hearing that baby cry or scream for the rest of their lives... coming from a parent who has been in a crash WITH my DD in the car, her cry that day was the BEST sound I have ever heard. Better than the day she was born, because I knew she was alive, even though I couldn't see her ( and FWIW- we had also been listening to a baby CD for 6 hrs that day on a road trip, just me and DD, to keep her calm.)

Good Luck, I hope you can get through to her.

He is in the Cosco seat that rf's to 35 lbs. I've told her that is a life and death situation. She says she knows this, but she needs a solution to the problem.

I'll give her the suggestions about a cd, thanks.
