Adding a chest clip to an Australian seat?

Would that be possible? Someone on another board lives in Australia and her DD keeps getting her arms out of the car seat straps, so she was wondering if you could add a chest clip to it.
And are chest clips illegal in Australia? That was asked on there
too.

Thanks!

Not recommend and not sold in AU.

They are strict over there on their (AS/NZS 1754) standard.

I would get her to check if the belts are being done up correclty, and are sitting at or above the child's shoulders.

Technically yes they are illegal. Firstly though I'd ask whether the child was forward or rear-facing (as where the harness straps have to be differ with those seats then US ones). At or above for rear-facing, or in the nearest slots to the shoulders (but not more than in inch below them) for forward-facing.

No, you shouldn't add a chest clip to an Australian seat. The distance between the straps is smaller and you run the risk of the chest clip *not* sliding down in the event of an accident and the clip actually strangling the child. Strings, ribbons, homemade 'wraps' are not recommended either for the same reason.

There is a product on the Australian market called a securap which is recommended however. First thing to check is that the straps are done up snugly and are at the correct shoulder slots for the child. The Securap is available at most baby stores and online on ebay.au
