Which RSTV?

DS is almost 3.5 and is 30 pounds and 35 inches. We will have a 15 minute taxi ride to/from the airport in Alaska. He uses CARES on the plane and sits properly. Not sure which RSTV will work best for him?

I would like to also be to use this RSTV for my DD for a trip to Europe, which will involve a 30 minutes taxi or shuttle van ride to/from the airport. She is almost 3.5, 33 pounds and 36 inches. She also sits properly in the CARES on the plane.

They are RF at home, but I'm comfortable with them being FF for these taxi rides.

One of them requires the top tether, and one of them has it as optional. If you're going international with it, get the one where it's optional. Not all cars overseas have a top tether point. (plus, it's just one more thing to deal with in a taxi...)

I can't remember which is which to tell you which model is the one where the tether is optional, but it's the one with the head pillow, and there is a "help me choose" thing on their web site that will send you in the right direction.

I don't think any require a top tether when using the lap/shoulder belt. In Europe lap/shoulder belts are common but top tether are not. If the new version has a lockoff of some sort, I'd recommend that. Mine is the one with TT and it is very uncomfortable for trips over a few mins because my son wiggled all around and I had to constantly correct his position. Much better to have lockoffs.

Oh and definitely try on for size, my son didn't fit until 35 pounds and it BARELY fit. It is very wide around the waist. In fact at 50 pounds and vest long outgrown by height, my son still can buckle it almost at the tightest belly position. I can't imagine a 30 lb kid would fit properly in mine unless kid is allllllllll belly.
