Question which car seat to choose?

My 8 month old is 17 lbs and 29in long. The AAP has just come out with new guidelines that state children should sit refacing until 2 years of age. He has outgrown his current infant seat. Can you recommend a rear facing car seat for him to transition into? Thank you.

I'm so glad you know of the recommendation. It's actually been the recommendation since 2002 to rear face as long as possible. As such, most carseats on the market now will get kids easily to three or four years old rear facing.

I'd look at the Graco My Ride, Safety 1st Complete Air, Sunshine Kids Radians, Evenflo Triumph 65, and Learning Curve True Fit.

Also, your child will outgrow the infant seat when there's less than 1" of shell above the head. Not at 29". Since kids are proportioned differently that's the average that children will hit that 1" mark. It may be you have months left in the infant seat. It may be it was outgrown months ago.
