Question When do techs turn their kids forward?

I turned my godson FF when he outgrew the True Fit Premiere by weight which was just after he turned 3. His twin sister took forever to hit 35 lbs., but I also turned her FF a few months after she turned 3. By then they were already FF in their parents' car.

As a tech I would RF to the limits of the seat but if the child hit that before the age of 3, I'd get another seat to RF them. Lucky for me, my godchildren and grandchildren have all been on the smaller side, so they were able to easily RF past the age of 3.

I turned my first at 12 months, back to rear facing at 15 months when I learned better and she rear faced until 22 months when she outgrew her Scenera.

My son is 2.5 and still rear facing with some room in his Radian and lots of room in his Size4Me (I expect to make it to 4 or dang near it). For me (I am a tech) I will not consider flipping my kids before 3, if their rear facing seat was outgrown I'd purchase another one. After 3 I'd consider a lot of things before purchasing a longer lasting seat convertible...budget, willingness on my child's part to continue rear facing, etc. If my child were over 4 and outgrowing their convertible I'd consider the cake iced and I would forward face.
