If it becomes an issue when they're 10, they can move to cheap backless boosters.

Really, there is almost no need for a 10-12 year old to ride in a high back. They will be fine riding in a backless of some sort, if they still need a booster at all. (if they prefer riding in a highback, then fine, but most probably won't, and don't NEED to.) And heck, my kids ARE homeschooled, and my 7 yo still begged to be allowed to have a backless, which is fine, since it fits beautifully, and that's what important in a booster, that it places the belts appropriately. Besides, an '11 ody has like.. a zillion side airbags, right?
