"True Fit" latch tethers too short? Can't install?

Help. I just purchased a new car with the latch sys. anchors. (My old car - an '01 required seat belt installation. Very easy).

Consulting the manual I found the latch tethers/anchors, threaded them through the holes and anchored one side. But for the life of my, I can't get the other anchor to reach far enough to clamp to the other latch anchor. It's several inches from it, and no amount of tugging or pressing on the seat gets it close enough. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to unsnap something - what is that neon orange webbing for?

Welcome.

1) What new car? Many don't allow LATCH use in the center because the anchors are too far apart, or because they're not connected to one another.

2) Are you putting the LATCH strap through the rear facing beltpath or the forward facing one? And in what direction is the seat facing?

The orange strap is just to keep the LATCH strap attached to the seat so you don't lose it.

I'm not a tech, so I won't try to give install tips, but...

I bought a Truefit this week and it came in with the LATCH straps threaded backwards (left on right side/ right on left side) and very very twisted. Someone else last week installed their latch backwards too, so the Truefits might just be coming from the factory a little mixed up.

You might try taking the cover off and doing some investigating.

I can think of a few things that could be happening that you should check:

1) there are 2 different belt paths. One for rear-facing and one for forward facing. Make sure you're using the correct one.

2) you haven't let the strap out. If you push in the gray button thing on the black plate and pull on the end, it should give you plenty of slack. I have enough extra "tail" after I install to run it through both lockoffs- so probably 12-14" or so.

3) you've got the LATCH strap hung up on the harness straps. The way it comes, if you plan to use it rear-facing, you have to pull both connectors to the middle to clear the harness straps, then thread them back out and through the belt path. The LATCH strap should lay flat in the belt path when you're done.

You are so helpful thank you! I had mine through the bottom rear facing path still and googled this. You're a life saver if you see this!

I have the same problem, I’ve moved the strap to the correct front facing holes and still… it’s too short. I’m going literally insane trying to short this chair out. It’s literally doesn’t reach even when I’ve positioned everything correct
