No, if you are driving to Idaho from Arizona, and pass through Utah, you must follow Utah's booster laws while passing through. Now, they might just give you a warning if you got stopped, but they might issue the ticket.

Right. Just like you have to obey the posted speed limits, obey seatbelt laws, firearm laws, etc. Unless a state specifically excludes visitors (doubt it), the law applies to everyone in the state.

This is one of those instances (I think - I have not looked at Alberta's law) where likely no one would notice, or check. What they might notice is if any forward facing seat wasn't top tethered, which is law in all of Canada. That being said, there are check stops in Calgary and Edmonton where the people doing the checking would notice if it was an American seat. I don't know what to tell you exactly. If it were me, I'd gamble on not getting caught for a week long trip.

Yeah, I'm hoping there's no reason to pull us over and check LOL!

I don't have a clue what my cousin is doing with her son. They live in France and I'm not sure they even own a car seat for him.

Won't have anybody in a FF seat so there won't be anyone to tether. ;) My big girls will be riding in backless boosters - which I assume is totally legal? Glad my 6-year-old is over 40lbs!

A child must be 40lbs to be in any booster in Canada.

So what if your car has Canadian plates? We will be flying to Calgary in August & renting a van. We will be in Banff for 6 days. I can't imagine buying Canadian seats for the trip.... :(

I'm sure if they pull you over for something else or at a check point they'll see your DL is from the states and give you a warning or nothing at all. My dad was speeding through a town. When the officer pulled him over he let my dad off since my dad would have lost his DL in ND because he was over double the posted limit (the sign was covered by a tree when the limit went from 60KM to 30KM).
