Question Thinking through car seat for newborn

I already have a Keyfit 30 but I'm still deciding on what seat for the second vehicle. My mom is giving me about $200 for a second seat. I have been planning on getting a CCO since WAY before we even started TTC because of how stinking cute it is but now I'm not sure. I have a CA that I plan on passing down when the Keyfit is outgrown and I know I'll have to get another convertible seat when the CCO is outgrown. I am now debating between the CCO and the SmartSeat. I saw it in person the other day and I really like it. The bottom slots didn't seem all that high with the infant insert in it as well. I can see it fitting my newborn. I know she won't be super tiny or anything. I could also just switch out the Keyfit until she fits in the Smart Seat if she is too small in the beginning. She will be born at home anyways and we wont' be leaving the house for the first 2 wks as well (if that makes a difference).

Anywho, help me think it out please!!!! The Smart Seat isn't all that well loved on cm so I wanted to see what the overall response was over here.

What cars do you have?

Stefanie - CPStech in Iowa

Can't believe I forgot to add that lol. Husband drives an 08 Mazda cx-7 and I drive an 03 Mountaineer. My 3.5 yr old is the only other one in the back seat and he is currently in a FN85 in my vehicle and a FF CA in my husband's car.

If you like the smartseat go for it. It will last her a long time and the Jessica pattern is very cute. I want a smartseat, but can't justify it atm. And I missed your expecting annoucement I guess, congrats! I love her name!

Thanks! I don't think I actually made the announcement official on this site lol. I do love the Jessica pattern and it would last a lot longer than the CCO. I just wish the CCO wasn't so darn cute! Thanks for your input.

If you plan on using the KF at first, then the SmartSeat would be fine once baby grows a torso and a neck. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=160107 I think he had an 8.5 or 9 inch torso in those pics, and the harness needs to be below the shoulders ("at" is not allowed) so babe would need a 9-9.5 inch torso, plus actually have a neck for the harness pads to fit.
