SUV with low seats in third row

Looking for an suv with three rows of seats. So many models seem to have a third row of seats where the seats are basically on the floor. In checking to see if my 11 year old can 5 step test in those back rows, her knees are near her chest. Her feet are on the floor, but most of her thigh is off the seat because the seat sits so low. Is this safe? Which suvs (other than the very large suburban sized ones) have a third row of seats that are more useable?

To my knowledge, almost every midsize SUV has this issue in the third row. Some are worse than others, but none are very comfortable for older kids or adults. The VW Atlas, Dodge Durango and Chevy Traverse are among the roomier midsize 3rd rows and might be worth a try if a minivan is not an option. I am not aware of an inherent safety issue with seats being low to the floor, unless of course it leads to a poor seatbelt fit or the child being out of position frequently. The bigger issue is the lack of space for head excursion in the third row.

You really do need a full-size SUV or a minivan to get a third row that has decent seat height, thigh support and legroom.
