Son's Pediatrician Misinformed on Extended Rear Facing

My son sees a family practice dr. who is always up on his AAP and FDA recommendations which he sometimes spouts off and then mocks(when to start solids, no decongestants, ect) When we stopped taking him into his appointments in an infant seat he asked what he was riding in in the car and we told him. his repsonse was good, make sure he's rear facing until at least 2 even though the law states 1 and 20lbs because not only is it what AAP says to do, but it's safer. He knows we still rf and is all for it. He did ask what the weight limit rfing for our seat is at my son's 2 yr apt to make sure he still fit.

Unfortunately it's not just doctors offices giving advice of when the turn kids or switch seats. The local WIC office just told one of my coworkers to put her just turned 3 yr old into a booster. Thankfully she knows better. Her daughter will be outgrowing her Scenera soon, but she's already planning to get her a combo seat when she saves up the money.

I have never, ever, not even once had a doctor ask me about car seats. Or even mention it in passing. The only exception is when they checked to make sure we HAD a car seat at the hospital with the older two, but it could have been an expired piece of crap and I'm sure they wouldn't have cared.

It's on the checklist of questions they ask at well-child visits for Kaiser (where my kids are seen.)

And for the public health clinic and the pediatric free clinic locally too, for that matter.

Weird because I've been to a lot of different doctors, hospitals, switched insurance companies, moved to different states...not once in my 5-ish years of being a parent has anyone asked about car seats.

It was never brought up when we lived in Texas when Emma was a baby (birth-17 months or so.) But ever since we moved out here it's been brought up at every well-child checkup.

I've had pediatricians ask if my kids rode in car seats, but never given any advice about how/when to turn them, etc. They pass over the information as though they have to go over it. Our hospital does give a reference sheet at birth, which used to state rear facing until at least 18 months or until they outgrow the weight limit. I haven't seen one for awhile, but I would assume it has the two year info on it. Hopefully!
