Friend (not a close one) has a DD 3 months younger than DS. A while back, after they had turned 4, I noticed her DD was in a booster seat (which is legal here). It was one of those times when you see something in passing, but don't know how to bring it up. Caught my attention because she was wiggling all over.
A month or two ago, she was chatting and telling me about a car seat she got on clearance. She was telling me it was a good deal, but only ffed to 40 lbs, but that didn't matter since the kids could move into a booster then anyway, right?
So I commented on how it depended on the child, was more about maturity than age and weight. How they needed to be able to sit still and not wiggle, etc. Mentioned DD1 wasn't ready until 6 1/2 - 7 and that DS would probably be the same. She seemed surprised, then had to run off and chase the baby, so we never got back to it. I never said anything about her DD being in a booster, just focused on my kids.
Saw their van today, and there is a harnessed seat installed for their DD!
I was so happy to see it and so glad I spoke up!
