Slim car seat for middle seat/second row of a Toyota Highlander

I'm looking to purchase a Toyota Highlander, probably a 2015-2018 year model. The configuration I want is my 5 year old in a 5 point harness seat in the middle seat of the 2nd row. Her brothers who sit on either side are older and don't need car seats. On occasion when we have friend ride with us we would need to be sure the seat next to the car seat would be able to move to allow the passenger to access the 3rd row seat. Does anyone else have experience with this particular vehicle with a 2nd row split bench seat?

Unfortunately, there's significant overlap between the center and passenger seatbelts in this model year range of this vehicle. I'm not sure you can securely install even a very narrow seat (like the Chicco Nextfit) there and still safely and comfortably seat someone on each side.

It is definitely worth a try, especially if the older siblings no longer need a booster seat. A seat like the Graco SlimFit 3 LX (Not the original SlimFit) has a chance to work and allow third row access, but will also be outgrown quicker than wider, taller models like a NextFit or Grow With You. Depending on the torso height and weight of your five year old, this may not be a very good value.

This is in a RAV4, but just to give you an idea- https://carseatblog.com/53035/narro...1-toyota-rav4-hybrid-prime-graco-slimfit3-lx/

As ketchupqueen mentioned, you may have issues with the seatbelt stalks, so be sure to get a free returns policy wherever you buy.

If she is mature enough to start using a booster, a narrow one may be an option as well.

I decided to also consider an Acura mdx, Toyota 4runner, and Honda Pilot. Any additional thoughts regarding those cars as well?

Oh, and also she still falls asleep in her car seat often so I feel more comfy with her being in a 5 point. She's 39 lbs and 44" if that helps. 5 years 4 months old.

My recollection is that the Pilot from those years might be a little more friendly to car seats in the middle row, but to be honest I would have to see the exact model year side by side to be certain.
