Question Should I Give Permission to Post?

So I guess I'm signed up to become a CPST!
I sort of wasn't expecting to hear back because I sent my info in after the deadline to apply, but they had a cancellation so I'm in the course for May.

Anyyyways, I'm entering my info in for the profile and there's a question on whether I'd like to give permission to post name and contact information for public viewing. I guess I'm not really sure about this; what's the advantages or disadvantages? Do people usually do that or is it personal preference?

If it means anything I don't work for a public entity where people would come to get their car seats checked. I'm more or less doing this for my own knowledge and to help the occasional family at a seat check a couple times a year or my own children, nieces and nephews.
And that's the other thing about this...all the information is asking me about my company information. Am I going to be in class with hospital employees and firefighters and be the only regular citizen? LOL

I guess I am kind of nervous and looking for advice! thanks everyone!

The biggest issue that my instructor brought up (for me, since I was the only one there just because, and not for my profession so I guess that answers one question) is that your address and cell/home number would be public if you don't put your work info in there. I changed mine to our PO Box, then switched it to my mom's private practice address... and I have a Google Voice number I use, so all of that is public instead of my house # and private cell #. You don't have to make your info public, it's just a way for people to find you (duh!) ;)

You'll be great!! No worries :) I'm sure a lot of us here have been the only ones there "for fun" so to speak!

I think my info is posted..not sure. lol

As far as being the only citizen..I was in my class. There were 5 other ladies in there and they were nurses. But I knew way more than they did so it was kinda nice being more knowledgeable.

YAY for becoming a CPST!

I think my information is posted, but I'm almost positive there was a way to make it name/email only.

My name is posted on here too. I've only ever gotten one or two emails from people needing checks.

Yea I didn't give permission to post. I guess I figure there's a big hospital 5 min from my house and if someone needed a check, they'd go there first.

I can think of three members/inactive former members here who did the nh training as unaffiliated advocates and afaik they all had positive experiences.

Good luck! Sorry I can't be there :(

I was the only crazy one in my class who was there on her own dime lol. It was fun though and I met a lot of nice people. I believe I made my info public. I don't see why I wouldn't have, I don't really have qualms about that kind of stuff.

Glad you got in!!!!!

Me too. I was at a children's hospital in Philadelphia with nurses. They thought I was crazy.

I was the only volunteer in my class. I'm still the volunteer in class, only now I'm at the podium. Students still look at me sideways on day one when we do our introductions.

I made my info public. I've had people "check my credentials".
