Welcome to car-seat.org!

The laws for rvs vary by state, and you must look at the ones you'll travel through for an accurate answer.

In some states, occupants are allowed to be unrestrained. In others, there are no exceptions for rvs from the regular restraint laws.

That said, the laws of physics don't change depending on your physical location. :) Most rvs either have no place to properly secure a child restraint, or if they do (such as a front seat in the cab with an airbag that can be disabled) that often leaves no seating left for adults. Seats in the back are usually not facing forward, not equipped with properly-anchored seatbelts, and are in a large flimsy box of projectiles to boot. None of those things are ok for securing a child restraint safely.

I've heard a few may be available with two rows of seating in the cab, but that's rare.

A more commonly recommended solution is to get a large truck with proper seating available and a trailer. (I know the ”fifth wheel” type that goes over the bed of a truck is popular for this.) That way the projectiles are contained, everyone has proper seating, and you can still enjoy the benefits of rving. :)

You must read your carseat and vehicle owner’s manual and understand any relevant state laws. These are the rules you must follow to restrain your children safely.
