RideSafer Vest between two car seats

Hi. My sister and I are researching the RideSafer vests, and she expressed concern that a child wearing the RideSafer vest in the center seat between two regular car seats could get smashed by the two car seats on either side in a crash.

Please help me articulate to her why that isn't a concern (or is it)?

I've heard someone mention that studies have shown the car seats actually provide some protection to the child in between which kinda makes sense because its acts a barrier between the child and any thing from outside the car. Maybe someone can find a link to that study? I did a quick searched the boards but couldn't come up with anything.

I would also expect the two car seats to provide some side protection. Hitting plastic on either side would be far better than being against the window and hitting that -- like an adult or an older child in a backless booster would be doing. And just being in that protected space would likely be more helpful than harmful.

In a crash, everything moves in the same direction. So, there is no way for the 2 seats to come at the child from opposite directions unless the car is hit at the same time from both sides of the vehicle, which would likely be such a severe crash that it might not matter what the child is riding in.
