Rewebbing

So, if you get a seatbelt rewebbed, does it have the same geometry of the previous belt? As in, would it be possible to, say, have it rewebbed and have the belt stalk be shorter?

This is a 98 grand am I'm talking about. It's a nightmare for boosters, and unless I can get the seatbelts replaced in the back with shorter belt stalks I don't foresee anyone, ever, 5 stepping back there. I don't five step back there!

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Are you just talking about having the seatbelts replaced?

yes, sorry, should have clarified. When you have it rewebbed you replace the webbing, but not necessarily the hardware. It's the equivalent of getting new harness straps.

I'm still not sure I understand. Are they sewing it on to the female end?

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just buy whole seatbelts. In order to replace JUST the webbing, you'd have to take off the stock belts and ship or take the stock hardware to them to have it placed on the webbing. Seems easier and cheaper to just get replacements.

We had a 97 Grand Am and I understand what you mean! The other issue we had was that the locking latchplate would not stay locked. We ended up twisting the stock (up to 3 twists), then installing the seat, twisting the seatbelt (the opposite direction to avoid untwisting), then pushing hard on the seat, and REFASTENING the belt. I hope this helps. I did this as a CPST under the supervision of a CPSTI. This is all "legal" in the real of car seat installs.
