Bumping with a question.

I just dug up a thread with pics, via google, that I shared with a friend. I wanted to rep the person who had done the pics, since it saved me a whole lotta trouble, but, there were no scales. The post was up in the main forum, but from 2010. Does the option to earn rep "expire" at some point?

I wouldn't have thought so, but I just pulled up a thread from the General forum from 2009, and there's no option to rep/thanks. I haven't given any for a day or two, so I wouldn't be out. I guess it does expire after a while?

There is a limit, perhaps 1 year. Rep does not expire if already given, but you can't rep or thank a post older than a year.

I can change this I think. Would 3 or 4 years be adequate?

Huh. Interesting. I don't make a habit of repping ancient posts so I guess I never realized. I don't recall when in 2010 it was so 3 might work, 4 definitely would :)

Admin, is all of this information still accurate? I took a CSO break for a while, so I'm slightly out of the loop. I'm not sure if any changes were made during the time I was gone. But if there were any changes, I can't edit my post anyway. ;)

A made a few minor edits but it was mostly right I think. There could be an error or two, but it still looks good overall!

You can give reputation in most forums with a few exceptions like Swap and the Senior Community Member forum, but Thanks is not available in most of the private Community forums. In the Community Member forum, your reputation power is worth half and it rounds down. If you are worth 2 points, you will be worth 1. If you are worth 3 points, you will be worth 2. If you are worth 4, you will be worth 2, etc. Since it is rounded down, if you are only worth 1, you will be worth 0 in community forums. :(

Ok, this part is a little confusing to me. I don't know if there's a mistake, or I'm just missing something? Wouldn't half of 3 be 1.5, and rounded down be 1?

I believe that is correct, but it's been a while since I checked to see how it works.

At some point, we probably need to revisit how reputation is calculated.
