Recommendations for car that can tow a boat

I posted earlier this week about whether or not our truck was safe for our kids. Bottom line for me is that it isn't safe *enough* for me, so we are taking two cars for now. If my husband tows our boat in the Toyota T100, I take the boys in our Odyssey.

But today my husband's work car (volvo XC wagon) broke down for the umpteenth time. We may be needing a new car in the near future. If we keep our 2007 Odyssey and the 1998 T100 and replace the Volvo we would need something that:

• 
  Can tow a boat, maybe 4000lbs?
  Safely seats 4 - 6 people comfortably, plus 1 dog.
  Isn't a huge gas guzzling
  4WD so it can drive in snow when not towing
  Nice interior so my husband can drive clients on occasion.

It doesn't need to be a truck, but it can be.

I would love any suggestions. Any information I can have on hand before DH starts looking at cars will help.

How big is your boat? You may be able to tow it with the van.

We can tow it with the van, but my husband doesn't want to. Says it's too hard on the engine for that type of car. I suggested that, but it seems to make sense to have his work car be the boat car as well.

I even offered to change the Mommy Wagon in for a Honda Pilot, but he really wants to keep they Odyssey as the family car we will drive into the ground.

We towed my hubby's bass boat with our Explorer (2006- I think the towing capacity for the 2011+ is lower), and we could with our Expedition as well, obviously.
