Reclining the Maxi Cosi

Can the Maxi Cosi be reclined FF or RF while installed in the car-like if the baby falls asleep can I just lean him back?
I have a Britax MA and if I recall correctly I cannot recline it while it is installed. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm assuming you mean the maxi cosi Priori. I don't know about the recline on that seat specifically, but I think that's right.

The MA base must be in mechanical recline mode when rf. It can be reclined ff for a child under 33 lbs (but really, a child that small should be rf). You are correct that you cannot change the recline after it is installed.

I am talking about the one that goes to 45 lb.Does that mean it can be reclined while installed?

I was hoping someone who owned the seat would reply. You're asking about this one, right?

I've only played with them in the store, never used one or installed one. I am pretty certain that you can adjust the recline on them without un-installing the carseat. The way it reclines is separate from the area where it's installed. Again, I've never actually installed one or read the owner's manual, but when I was playing with it I remembering noticing the way the recline feature worked.

I can't get the Maxi Cosi website to work with my browser; I was hoping I could find the manual online. Ah, here we go, I was able to find a way around to the page I needed. It says on the website "lets you recline the seat while it's installed"

They have the manual, too. It says you must use the seat in the most reclined position for rear-facing, but you can use any of the four positions when forward-facing.

Oh, and it only goes to 40lbs.

The MCP MUST be fully reclined (there are several clicks to the recline mechanism) RF. FF, the MCP can be installed using any of the recline positions, as well as be adjusted while the child is riding in it.

I have a MCP :)

Yay, I knew someone here would have one. :)

How high are the top slots, out of curiosity?

it's kind of hard to compare. The better seat is the one that fits your child and your vehicle and that you use correctly every time.

The MCP has the ff recline on the go.

The MA has a taller shell, 2" higher top harness position and a 65 lb ff weight limit. It will last most children at least a year longer rf, and 1-2 more years ff. It's not nearly as cumbersome to change the harness height.

The MCP goes to 40 lbs. I believe the top harness slots are comparable to the RA (~15"), though the bottom slots are much lower (~6-6.5").

I've not measured the MCP's top slots, but my almost 4 y/o has outgrown the RA height-wise, and she still fits in the MCP. I don't like the FF installation of it in my car, though, so it is currently being used for my RF 27mos. My almost 4 y/o loves it...she loves the recline feature of it. I just am not pleased at all with the FF installation in my car. I'm not sure if I'm not getting it in 100% correctly, if it's a vehicle compatibility issue, or if I'm just too used to Britax installation (my other seats are all Britax).

Anyhoo, my almost 4 y/o is under the top slots (not a lot), and her ears are under the seat shell. She's too tall to RF (~34lbs anyway, too close for comfort at this age). I'll go out and measure the slots tomorrow.

so other than the weight limit, this sounds so much better than the britax ma.Is it?

The MA has a significantly taller shell height, lasting kids much longer. My almost 4 y/o will likely be out of the MCP in the next 4-6mos (she's 4 in July), height-wise, and most 4 y/os are at or over 40lbs...I have lightweights! The Wizard, based on the same shell as the MA, my 5.5 y/o still fits in (barely). My almost 4 y/o is in a BLVD (also on the MA's shell) and she's got lots of time in it. However, it'll probably be passed down to a little sister and she'll get a Regent or a Frontier when needed, before it's outgrown. My little 2 can use the extra head room RF that the Britax offers over the MCP.

I LOVE the MCP for a newborn, though. It fits newbies wonderfully :)

Top Slots measure ~15.5", w/o compressing the cushioning on the seat. Not bad! With a slight compression of the seat (as in, kid's weight), you could probably eke out a 16" torso height.

This is going to sound weird, but why would you need to adjust the recline on the seat once its installed  I know that this is one of the big selling features on the SS2.

My DD falls asleep in the car all the time, it would be inconvenient for me to have to pull over to adjust the recline for her every time that she did. Maybe I am just over thinking it. To me, it is easier to get the proper recline in the first place. Then you don't have to worry about head slump from being too upright.

My dd is currently dead-even with the top Marathon slots. I'll try to remember to have her try out the MCP next time we see one. :)

I think you have to have the MCP in the reclined position to install it, and after that you can change it. But I think it would be nice to be able to change the recline without reinstalling the seat. For just driving around town, upright is great, but if you are going a little farther and you know your kid will fall asleep, then you can recline it before you leave. Much faster than having to reinstall the seat.

I have played with the FF recline feature a little bit around town (had it installed FF for about a day, and gave up on it)...with dh driving (and DD on the seat behind/center me) I could reach around with one hand and recline it easily. DD thought it was a grand game :D She loved it. LOL

ETA: My dd has a lot more room in the BLVD than in the MCP. The headrest is not all the way up. The time I had dd in the MCP was, I guess, 3 or 4 months ago now.
