You should find some links to sources with recommendations and ratings. If you do find ratings, be careful you understand what they mean. If they are not accompanied by a risk of injury or if the testing was not done in a vehicle identical to yours with a child similar in height and weight to yours, then the ratings may not be valid. Personally, I have not seen a good carseat rating system.

The NHTSA is also working on a rating system for child restraints, but it will be some time before it is available to the public.
