Radian ratcheting problem

Active member
I turned my Radian rearfacing again after several months of forward facing. In the past I had always tightened and loosened rfing because that worked best for us. We found tightening to be more difficult ffing so we left it as was and just wiggled the kid into the straps. Now I need to loosen and tighten again because I cannot get the baby into the seat otherwise. But the tightening won't work! It tightens just fine when the seat is empty- pull, ratchet, tighten, repeat. But when a child is in it- and when any sort of resistance is working against the straps tightening- it pulls, ratchets, loosens. Repeat. Like taking one step forward and one step back. I can't get the baby into the seat without the straps loosened, but I can't safely tighten them back up with the baby in the seat!

I will uninstall the seat and look over it this morning. If I can't find anything causing the problem I will call Diono. But I would love this forum to weigh in on this. Thank you!

I found with mine the part you loosen at gets stuck up so if you push it down after tightening its fine. I really dislike the Radian seats for this though especially for cost involved with them.
