picking a minivan…going crazy!

I wish someone would just decide for me already! Just find it and drop it in my driveway!! Every time I come to a conclusion I change my mind again :( It was between Sienna & Odyssey and I decided we should narrow our search to a 2008-2009 Odyssey, preferably touring but at least an ex-l with leather & dvd. I chose this because of the leg room in the 3rd row, the standard 8th seat, and the functionality of the 2nd row seats just sliding over instead of having to remove them to change position. I also liked that this model year had 5* across the board except rollover 4* and good ratings for everything else. However, I found the Sienna's seats to be much more comfortable and get more for the $$- and as far as minivans go they look better imo. I am so anal…..Am I crazy for going against a Sienna just because it has a 4* driver rating over 5* and poor head restraint rating? I also loathe wood grain and hate that to get leather you lose the option of an 8th seat:eek: I keep second guessing myself here and am driving myself nuts!! Should I just let go of the leather and get cloth? I love my heated seats though! Should I stick to my guns with the '08 Odyssey? Ignore the ratings on an '08+ Sienna? You can't get better safety ratings with Siennas until 2011 which I love but would have to lose the leather to afford it and likely the dvd. We found an amazing deal on an '08 Sienna with nav & dvd but a little higher mileage (73k) than we want and it has tan interior (I vainly like my carseats to match and they're all gray- silly I know but it bugs me!:p) Right now ds is in an Advocate but is any day from outgrowing it and has an xtsl in waiting for him. We also have a kf we'll probably use when #2 comes along. Does this make one better than the other? My plan is to move the captains chairs together in the 2nd row of whatever we end up with. As you can see I am going to be committed over all of this soon! Any insight:confused:

The importance of the 4 vs 5 star driver rating is up to you. The poor head restraint rating is, IMO, absolutely meaningless. Read up on exactly how they determine that rating and you may be as underwhelmed as I am. What is important is how it fits *you* (and/or DH or any other regular driver). You want the head restraint, at a minimum, one fist's width behind your head and as high as the top of your ears. Ideally, it will be just touching the back of your head and as high as the top of your head.

My 2006 (same generation) Sienna provides excellent head restraint for me and also probably the best seat belt fit I've found in a long time.

We went back and forth too. We ended up w/ the 07 ody exl w/ dvd and nav. I found them very similar on the things that were really important: reliability, car seats, safety, versatility. I prefer the look of the ody and I like the way it corners better...that's it. That's literally all that made the decision. If you find the sienna seats more comfy and like the way it looks, buy the sienna. At the end of the day, I'm sure you'd be happy w/ either.

Re: picking a minivan…going crazy!

We went with the Sienna because we wanted 8 passengers and IMO the 8-pass Odyssey of that generation is not a true 8 passenger. The 8th seat is tiny and uncomfortable. The 8th seat in the Sienna is almost as wide as the other seats and three across the second row is quite easy.
