Parkway SGL SecureGuard required or not?

One of my nieces always gives me attitude when she rides in my car because I have the parkway SGL with the SecureGuard and she doesn't want to use it. I aways make her use it mainly because she doesn't get to override my safety rules. I looked in the manual, and the pages showing the proper installation state to only use when ... "AND" "when the lap belt is routed B under the armrests, through the SecureGuard, low across the child’s upper thighs." That made me think it was required. However, later in the manual it says "BRITAX recommends using the SecureGuard to achieve best vehicle seat belt placement." This makes it sound like it isn't required.

She's 8, not sure of her height, but I think last time I checked she was 48lbs. She's super skinny.

It isn't required. It says somewhere in the manual how to remove it as well if you opt to not use it.
I would just make sure that she has a good belt fit without it if you choose to not use it with her, otherwise just stick with "my car, my rules"

My kids don't like it either and since fit is fine without it and it isn't required, we don't use it.
