newborn in Honda Fit

Originally I posted this:

What are the best infant seats for small back seats, especially ones that are budget-friendly? The ones that come to mind for me are the Chicco Keyfit and the Aton, neither of which is inexpensive. Thanks!

(ETA: the family has a 2008 Honda Fit in case anyone is curious.)

Now I'm updating because the family is thinking of using a convertible. Does anyone know what (if any) "full size" convertibles will work at a newborn angle in a Honda Fit? They're leaning coccoro, but obviously a larger convertible will last a lot longer if it will work for them. Thanks!

When my husband and I were trying out seats, the two we were able to fit in our back seat comfortably were the combi shuttle 33 and the Aton. The combi shuttle isn't *inexpensive,* but it is certainly less expensive than the aton or the keyfit.

Also, I saw the be-safe 35 at Target today and it *looked* very compact -- it almost looked like an Aton. I don't remember the price, though. I'm guessing it's not "budget-friendly."

Re: rear facing only (infant) seat for small back seat

Thank you for the responses! Now they're thinking convertible; I changed the original post. :)

A Coccoro will definitely fit (and fits three across with two Radians, in case that's in their future!) I haven't tried other seats in the Fit but in our car the Coccoro and our Britax G3 seat take about the same amount of space front-to-back, so I'd be surprised if a G4 wouldn't fit (and presumably a Clicktight too). A Priori also fits (not available anymore but there are probably dimensions for comparison listed somewhere). We looked at the Fit last year when we were car shopping, and the interior (at least of the current models) is actually roomier than you might imagine given the overall size.

That's interesting that a coccoro and the Britax convertibles take the same amount of front-back space! I'll definitely let them know. The nice thing about Britax is that their seats will all take the same front-back space, but there are lots of options, so basically something in each price range and they can decide what they want to do as far as price vs. features.
