It doesn't emphasize the definition of proper fit that has been added, though, which was the most important part of the law, lol. The actual content of the law is that kids must be in a booster until they are 8 AND the lap/shoulder belt fits them properly OR 4'9" AND the lap/shoulder belt fits them properly OR 16.

KQ - Do you have a better layman friendly link? I was looking for links last week and this one seems more user friendly than the other ones I found.

Sadly, my 12 yr old is still not 4' 9".

My DD might be in the same situation. Do you know what your percentile your DD is on the growth curve? My DD is around the 10th percentile last I checked. One time I looked at her growth curve and figured she should hit 4'9" around 13yo. Her twin brother is on the 97+ percentile and is already 4'4" at 6yo.

Some kids 5-step as early as 4'3" in some cars; some as late as 5'1". That's why it's a separate clause for proper fit. :)

Yah, my 4'4" 10yo just about 5-steps (certainly passes the California law's fit-test) in the third row of my parents' 2005 Nissan Quest minivan, so would be legal to ride there without a booster in California.

He ranges from 0-3. I failed to mention earlier that he has a growth hormone deficiency. As a grown man prior to treaent he would have been 4' 10" to 5' 1". He is now expected to be 5'11"...but it is still slow getting there:)
